A LaMode and A Capella

The Deer River High School Vocal Ensemble kicks off Season 14 of the Tuesday Noon Concerts.  This audition-based ensemble, made up of ninth through twelfth grade students,  is entirely female. After singing as a mixed group, this has been a real change for some of the members.
The DRHS Vocal Ensemble traditionally sings for school concerts, school events, sporting events, community events, and enjoys caroling around the Deer River and Grand Rapids area during the holidays.  Having sung with them, I can attest to the purity of their tone and their focus.
The ensemble enjoys a challenge and works to sing a wide variety of styles and genres of music. Members are very involved in extra-curricular activities and thrive academically. They are involved in many sports, including cross country, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, softball, and track. They are also involved in the arts including Band, Concert Choir, Jazz Band, and the One-Act Play. Excelling academically and in leadership, several of these young women are members National Honor Society, Student Council, LINK Crew, The Movement, DROBA, and many have after school jobs.
Dedicated musicians, they enjoy singing together and arranging music to sing. Although they are different ages and have different interests, they celebrate their differences and do a great deal of laughing! Spirited and humble, they thank the  Summer Concert Series for giving them the opportunity to sing for the Grand Rapids community.
To hear them sing Music We Love, see them at Zion Lutheran Church, 2901 Highway 169 South, Tuesday, June 2 at noon.
